Lata

The Instructor

Meet Lata

A self-taught Illustrator.

Lata Malani has always felt a deep connection with art. Raised in a traditional Indian family where the arts were considered too competitive a path, she chose to pursue her passion anyway — quietly converting skeptics into believers. Inspired by the palette and craft of Rajasthan, her journey began with illustration long before it had a name, and later formalised with a fashion design diploma from the London School of Trends — a formality, she says, only to open the door to the design world. But she sees herself, foremost, as an artist before a designer.

Practice

Illustration became her breakthrough in August 2021, leading to paid gigs and quiet recognition. She has since collaborated with several established designers, firms, and artists across India's couture and prêt landscape.

Brand

Founder and creator of M A S O — her own label of traditional Indian wear, where her illustrations breathe into cloth. A brand rooted in craft, heritage, and the same reverence for silhouette that shaped her drawings.

Belief

"Illustration was always the first language. Everything else — the diploma, the label, the recognition — came after."

Lata Illustrator

An editorial studio for the language of Indian silhouettes.
